Lake Kournas
Lake Kournas is the only freshwater lake in Crete and is in a beautiful setting in a valley amongst the mountains about 4km from Georgioupoli. There are pedalos for hire to explore the lake and plenty of lakeside restaurants serving good and very reasonably priced meals and refreshments. There is also free parking available, and a number of little shops selling a range of ceramics including butterflies, sun ornaments and unusual little dishes and containers.
